Emails From the Road

KC Deane is up in BC flying in a bird for the first time. Here is an email he sent me this morning describing his experience.

Man yesterday was so amazing. Heli skiing is so awesome. The avi danger was super bad but other than that it was sick. Just being in the heli alone was freaking awesome, and the last run of the day, we skied the sickest lines. Just searched around in the heli till we saw something we like and found these long spine lines with some mandatory airs out the end. Epic snow, Ill have to tell you more when i get back. Ill be back on sunday so Ill cruise down some time later on Sunday.

Later KC

We are all living vicariously through you.  Have fun be safe.  See ya Sunday.

Hurricane Ridge RE-OPENS, head up this weekend for $20!!!!

The Olympics come alive again with the reopening of Hurricane Ridge, nestled in the Olympic National Park. The ski area is fully operational again after a devastating slide destroyed the access road. Locals say they their own version of “Olympic Spirit” helped get the area back up and running. Come experience Hurricane Ridge for just $20 and spend a day or weekend on Washington’s majestic Olympic Penninsula.

They are more than 100-percent of their average snowpack for the year. That’s because they are along the same track as Mt. Baker. Storms come in from the Pacific and nail the Olympics before the Cascades. The Strait of Juan deFuca is the only path for big storms to strike directly at the Cascades - which basically equals Mt. Baker. Hurricane Ridge takes from that same pathway.

Aside from tons of snow, they have incredible views - Pacific Ocean to the straits, Vancouver Island, Mt. Baker, Cascades and sometimes Mt. Rainier. You can also drive to a few hundred feet short of the summit, making backcountry access that much better. The Mervin Manuf. guys ride HR on the weekends and Baker during the week. It’s pretty cool.

Dale Chihuly, K2 and evo partner to benefit Big Brothers, Big Sisters!

“World renowned artist Dale Chihuly and Action Sports Retailer evo partner to benefit youth”

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON – On February 26, 2010 Dale Chihuly, K2 and evo joined forces to unveil a custom glass “Neon Tumbleweed” created by the artist. The event benefited Big Brothers and Sisters of Seattle and donations were accepted throughout the evening as guests checked out the new piece, enjoyed refreshing brews donated by Pyramid Brewery and got a chance to snap a photo with Dale himself. If you took photos at the event, go here to check them out!  The hand painted Dale Chihuly snowboard and pair of skis, donated by K2 were made available on site by auction during the event to benefit BBS Seattle and you can bid online as well through March 8th, 2010. Visit the Ebay Auction Pages:

Dale Chihuly is one of America’s foremost artists. A native to the Northwest, he revolutionized the world of glass and has exhibited his artwork in over 200 museums around the globe. Drawing is an essential artistic outlet for Chihuly. He draws with a great deal of energy, and has used markers, chalk, and fistfuls of pencils. Now he most often uses acrylic paints in squeezable bottles, like those used to create the dramatic one-of-a-kind skis and snowboard that will be available for auction to benefit BBS Seattle.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters has been a leader in one-to-one youth service for more than a century, developing positive relationships that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of young people. Big Brothers Big Sisters mentors children, ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country - including Seattle.

evo employees volunteer @ the Crystal Mt Vertical Express for MS!!!

On February 27th, a lively group of evo employees and friends went up to the Crystal Mt. ski area to volunteer for the 25th annual Vertical Express for MS. The event was founded by Jimmy Huega, former US Olympic ski team racer, to support financially and emotionally, the families affected by Multiple Sclerosis.

It was an amazing day surrounded by bluebird skies and great people. The events included a treasure hunt/poker run and a dual downhill GS race. We want to thank the organizers of the event, Terri and Dan Stewart, for making us feel welcome and we will no doubt be out there next season to help out again. Cheers!
