The Motherland!

Hey, how about instead of worrying about what you’re going to be for Halloween — you were a creepy, mustached gym teacher last year anyway — you come to evo to watch something awesome? And no, it’s not Bryce doing a backflip off the balcony.

New Intelligent Group is showing their film “The Motherland” tomorrow night here at evo. Featuring locals Derek Spong, Kohl Schoening and Anders Fornelius, a ton of the movie was filmed at Stevens Pass, the mountain many of us call home, and even highlights the East coast (the place fewer of us call home…).

Stevens will also be showing their film “Meet Me in the Mountains”. Wow. I want to go skiing.

7pm. October 30th. Come!

I looked at this shoe and sunglasses combo pack several months ago as a buyer, and opted out of Pre-Booking any of them - due large in part to its MSRP of $199. However, I got an email from Podium’s in-house rep yesterday stating that they had just received the ltd. shoe and wayfarer pack and that it would now begin shipping. I must admit, after a second look I snagged up a couple of size runs - one size one for our store and one size run for the web. We will have these exclusive packs shortly and they will go fast. Who doesn’t like shoes and Ray Bans?

Extracting Visions: An Interview with Nitro

NItro snowboards are rad. I was lucky enough to recently sit down with Nitro’s founders, part of the design team, their team manager, sales manager and our Northwest rep and figure out why. Now you can too.

“It seems like so long ago,” Mike says. He’s one of the designers at Nitro and he’s looking at the art for this year’s Eero on the gallery walls here at evo. The initial sketches are hung on the wall beneath the final graphic, which depicts a chaotic room strewn with boards, boots, cameras, books, pizza boxes, magazines. Front and center is a shaggy blond kid sitting at his computer with his back to us. The air is crowded with close up shots from the screen, speech bubbles compete for attention. It’s all IM conversations and photos of snowboarding, someone’s mohawk, friends, girls. At first glance, it’s a mess. But there’s more to it than that. You get a sense of what this kid is about and the jumble of his life translates to a sort of fervor for, well, snowboarding.

Download Your Favorite Rider

This is super cool and pretty techy. Like Marty McFly. Ally Distribution has released a digital download player specifically for action sports films. That includes snowboarding. And skiing. Or kiteboarding. Or emu riding. No but really. Say you really feel like watching Absinthe’s Optimistic but you don’t want to sit around for two weeks while some guy on ebay forgets to mail it to you. You can just go to Ally and download it. It’ll be compatible with all platforms and all portable media devices. And you can watch it like 15 times before it snows and you actually get out and ride.

Click below to browse the library.

New Guy

Whats up evo followers! I’m Nick Jones, and just signed on to be evo’s first wake team rider. I’ve known and been stoked on evo for awhile now, and am excited to be working with them. I grew up in the Northwest and will always call it home. I started out in snowboarding when I was super young. All the way through middle school and beginning of highschool I lived to ride the mountains around Seattle in the winter and Hood in the summer. Unfortunately, in 11th grade I scorpioned pretty bad on a landing and messed my head up a bit. My docs told me i shouldn’t ride anymore, definitely the worst news ever. A couple summers before that I’d tried wakeboarding, and was all about it, just never had time. Read the rest of this entry »

Hunting Yeti | Webisode 5

I’m pretty sure it snowed somewhere today and Webisode 5 is out. Chris Bentchetler hunts kangaroos and skis trees in Australia with Christian Sirianni. Pep Fujas goes to Argentina, where skies are blue and snow deep, and drops cliffs with Dash Longe. Sammy Carlson also makes an appearance with some footage from NZ.

Webisode 5 will is available for download only off of the Nimbus Independent page.
