evoTrip | Day 13 & 14 - Rice fields & Ahmed

The day started with a “sunrise” scooter ride, our destination was to be these incredible rice terraces…no more than an hours scooter ride from our Villa.

The countryside was incredible… laced with golden tree lines, small villages, temples, wood working shops and smiling faces.  We took an impromptu detour and ended up a little farther down the road than we had expected…okay, a lot farther, but it was worth it.

When stopping to ask for directions at one point, we were blessed with pieces of rice by some locals, saw a volcano, and took in the scenery before arriving at the terraces.  In an effort to get recoup some feeling in our legs, the crew took a little stroll through the pyramids, i mean rice terraces…they really look pyramids, sitting their amongst the hills…you’ll have to check out some of the photos or the video to really get an idea of what im talking about.  Some local kids were kind enough to escort us up and down the terraces, and back to a cafe that looked out on the terraces where we enjoyed some fresh squeezed juices and shakes before heading back to VIlla Sebali to pack up and head to Amed.

So our Villa in Ubud was heavan on earth and our villa here in Amed is our Palace I guess you could say.  This place is seriously something you see on MTV Cribs.

Scott the owner is a super cool, laid back guy from Seattle.  Apparently years ago he had an imports company that had a retail store in Seattle but mostly he specialized in wholesaling, I might need to double check my sources but it goes something like that.

The village Amed is known for its diving.  As we drove in to town the roadside was lined with signage promoting this dive company or that dive company…. Never have seen anything quite like it.

Today Bryce and I enjoyed a Balinese Dive Certification course.  Scott the Villa owner brought in his guy who specializes in diving.  He brought some equipment for the two of us and we spun laps around the 6.8foot pool getting used to the apparatus, and breathing technique.

In the evening we enjoyed the most delicious mahi mahi and jumbo prawns I’d ever seen.  Sadly we had to embrace our first evening sans dessert but I think we will live.  I guess at some point we need to start adjusting back to the real world.

After dinner we rolled next door to bar Pazzo to enjoy an evening of music, Balinese beverages and good people watching.

The band was a local act from a small Balinese village outside of Amed.  They specialized in covers… we got a smattering of Soundgarden, Bob Marley, Beattles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more… thankfully, though we all had money riding on it, no Nirvana.

At the bar we enjoyed the woman who looked like Axel Rose…. dang that woman killed it out on the rug… not even kidding.  Her and her 50 something year old man friend hopped up during one of the many 90’s hits played that night and I swear I’ve never seen someone dance so whole-bodied as this woman…its like no one else was in the room… she had an ear to ear grin and it was kind of contagious.
It was our last full night here in Bali… and it was starting to sink in.
