evo Art Galley Exhibit: Progress Syndrome by Hunter Longe
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON –Hunter and his art were welcomed with open arms after a long haul from San Francisco late last Wed night. With lots to get done over the next few days, we quickly unloaded his twin brother’s truck and decided to make a plan over some substance. We took a walk down 36th for some late night Thai food from Jai Thai and discussed how the next few days would unfold leading up to the exhibit opening.
Most of Thursday was spent getting the galley space all dialed in, touching up with some paint and getting the spatial layout and where each piece would call home for the next month. Friday day saw similar finishing touches from Hunter, while his twin brother and evo team rider Dash, and I cruised around the city in search of the televisions for two of his installments. This proved harder than originally expected. And why wouldn’t it? Apparently with everything going digital in the next few days the demand for vintage TVs are non-existent and thrift stores have not been accepting them as donations. After a couple hours of phone calls and navigating the city via google maps on my phone we found two TV’s that worked perfect and made it back to evo just in time to finish the set setup.

When all was said and done, the opening was a huge success. Evident by the large crowd and the constant comments I received about how intriguing his work was. The gallery was filled with a fresh look and a unique style new to its walls that provoked thoughts and descriptions that are beyond simple explanations. With dual projections on the walls, looping DVDs and the perfect blend of conceptual drawings and 3D art, Hunter’s exhibit is off the charts and is definitely one of the most notable since the gallery’s inception nearly 4 years ago. I encourage anyone reading this who has stepped foot into our gallery and check this out.

Although both brothers loved Seattle and vowed to return, Dash was eager for some down time after putting nearly 2400 miles on his Tundra in the past week and Hunter ready to start his first day of work at a new art studio back in the Bay Area. As quickly as the duo came we saw them off yesterday afternoon but not until after a delish breakfast at Portage Bay. Look for Hunter’s art to show up on our shelves and website this fall with his works featured on Dash’s signature Discrete. Beyond our corner of Fremont, Hunter’s work can be found throughout the snow sports industry with his graphics featured on snowboards by Tech Nine and signature goggles Airblaster.
evo would like to thank Hunter and Dash Longe for coming into this event sight unseen and making it so memorable; Discrete owner Julian Carr and girlfriend, Jen Hudak, who came all the way from Salt Lake City for the night; Pyramid Brewing and Vitaminwater for their donation of beverages; also we would like to thank Taylor Grant for shooting photos and to all those who came to check out the gallery. evo has made a commitment to dedicate valuable retail space to place we can hold events like this and you patronage reassures us we made the right choice. If you haven’t been thorugh the gallery come down and check out Hunter’s work, it will be on diplay all of June.
