Thursday, September 17, 2009 – The boys at Absinthe came to town with two goals in mind: to create some good ol’ snowboard stoke amidst the lingering summer swelter, and to raise awareness and support for environmental non-profits targeted at preventing global climate change. And it’s safe to say that from the opening scene to the last shot on screen, Absinthe’s “Neverland” delivered on both fronts in a big way.
The evening started with a technical hiccup that sounded something like the teacher’s voice from a Charlie Brown cartoon. But, despite the mic malfunction the message was clear; viewers who used alternate transportation to get to the show won tons of gear! A grip of spacecraft tees, limited edition Union bindings, and a grand prize Capita snowboard all got given to the earthy advocates. In addition to the positive reinforcement, Absinthe donated $2 of every ticket sold to various environmental efforts.
The movie itself was a magical romp through a mystical land of nostalgia, gnarly drops, near-deadly knocks and … Norwegian nancy-boys? Yep. Travis Rice made his “Neverland” debut with flowing blonde locks, white shirt buttoned to the base of his chest, flowing fur hat, and the flowing mane of a wild white stallion. Of course this was followed by some of the flowingest drops, flips, spins, and all other manner of manly maneuvers imaginable. Eero Ettala, DCP, MFM, and MFR were just a few of the other big names to grace the screen, NBD.
In summary, Absinthe Films’ “Neverland” Seattle premiere was a huge success. The riding was unbelievable, the fans were beyond stoked, and the money raised will go a long way to keeping our winters white. “Neverland” is a friendly reminder that the wonderful world of winter is not in a land far, far away. It’s in our own backyard, and it’s right around the corner. Get stoked.
