Dangerously Cute

I had plans Friday night to buy an iPhone, use it to order a pizza online and download the entire first season of The OC for a marathon viewing. Thankfully I remembered it was First Thursday in Fremont, so I headed back to work to get some real culture instead.

Scott Fuller, senior designer at SuperBig Creative, displayed his personal work for the first time, after spending two days covering the walls of our gallery in bright paint, putting up giant wood images, and doing whatever else he did to prepare behind closed doors (possibly playing around on his bike? Fuller is also a pretty killer BMX rider). Fuller’s art explores the juxtaposition of creativity and toxicity within mass culture, the play between authenticity and mortality, and the immediacy of visual communication. It is at the same time playful and disturbing, and his themes are well represented by what he has dubbed the peace-skull, as well as being expressed in the brand name itself.

The opening was a huge hit and evo was full of people checking out the art, music, drumsticks and, of course, beer. Check out the photos and swing by sometime this month to see the huge, bright, wood cuts at evo.
